International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is observed annually on December 3 to promote inclusivity and celebrate the contributions of persons with disabilities (PwDs). Established by the UN in 1992, IDPD aligns with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), adopted in 2006. The 2024 theme emphasizes PwDs' leadership for a sustainable future. India has launched various initiatives like the Accessible India Campaign and Deendayal Divyangjan Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) to support PwDs, focusing on accessibility, skill training, and social inclusion. PM Modi's term "Divyangjan" highlights abilities rather than disabilities, reflecting societal progress.
