Pakistan’s National Security Policy

About the NSP:

  • In late December 2021, the National Security Committee of Pakistan approved the National Security Policy. It covers a 5-year period between 2022 and 2026.
  • This NSP has been in the making for 7 years and is to be a “Comprehensive National Security Framework” to ensure ‘safety, security and dignity of the citizen of Pakistan’.
  • It covers economic matters, military matters, water security, foreign policy, demographics and terrorism.
  • It has placed ‘economic security’ at the ‘core’, in order to achieve this objective.
  • It is also the 1st time such an NSP has been approved in Pakistan.
