India’s E-Waste Surge

India's e-waste surged 72.54% from 1.01 million MT in 2019-20 to 1.751 million MT in 2023-24, driven by increased electronic consumption during COVID-19. Comprising hazardous substances like arsenic, cadmium, and lead, improper disposal poses severe health and environmental risks. The 2022 E-Waste (Management) Rules implemented Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), assigning recycling targets to producers, boosting e-waste recycling to 43% by 2023-24. Despite progress, 57% of e-waste remains untreated. Experts recommend collaborating with the informal sector and offering tax incentives for eco-friendly designs to enhance recycling. India's e-waste management advances reflect growing awareness and accountability.
