Indian Navy to Commission New Warships and Submarine
The Indian Navy will commission three advanced platforms—INS Surat (destroyer), INS Nilgiri (frigate), and INS Vagsheer (submarine)—on January 15, 2025. All built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai, these vessels represent India’s growing self-reliance and naval strength. Surat, part of Project 15B, enhances destroyer capabilities; Nilgiri, the lead frigate of Project 17A, incorporates advanced stealth technology; and Vagsheer, a Scorpene-class submarine under Project 75, features advanced sonar systems and modular design. This commissioning reinforces India’s maritime presence, technological advancement, and focus on indigenous defence manufacturing.
