GenCast: Google’s AI Weather Model

Google’s DeepMind has introduced GenCast, an advanced AI model for weather prediction that surpasses the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). It provides up to 50 different weather scenarios, offering accurate forecasts for up to 15 days. Using a diffusion model, GenCast processes Earth’s shape and recent weather data to generate precise outputs. It enhances disaster preparedness by accurately predicting tropical storms, potentially saving lives and reducing damage. Google plans to make GenCast data widely accessible for research.
