Banglar Bari Housing Initiative

The Banglar Bari initiative, launched by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, aims to provide housing for rural impoverished families. Beneficiaries will receive ₹1.20 lakh, with ₹60,000 disbursed initially. Regions like Jangalmahal and Darjeeling are allocated ₹1.30 lakh. Over 12 lakh families qualify for the first phase, with plans to include 18 lakh families by 2025. This initiative operates independently of central funds, addressing gaps left by halted MGNREGA support. The scheme is part of West Bengal’s broader efforts to ensure rural welfare, while focusing on transparency and countering protests regarding beneficiary lists.
