AnemiaPhone – Innovative Anaemia Screening
AnemiaPhone is an innovative, portable device developed by Cornell University to screen for iron deficiency, a primary cause of anaemia. Using a simple blood test strip and mobile integration, it provides rapid and accurate results. Transferred to ICMR for integration with India’s Anaemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) programme, it addresses high anaemia rates among women (57%) and children (67.1%). This tool decentralises healthcare, enabling accessible, cost-effective testing. AMB's 6X6X6 strategy includes interventions like iron supplementation and dietary awareness. Despite challenges like pandemic-related disruptions, AnemiaPhone is poised to enhance anaemia management and contribute to improved health outcomes across India.
