Advanced Hydrogel Revolutionises Cancer Treatment
Researchers from IIT-Guwahati and the Bose Institute, Kolkata, have developed an injectable hydrogel for targeted cancer treatment, particularly breast cancer. Composed of biocompatible peptides, the hydrogel responds to glutathione (GSH) in tumour cells, releasing the chemotherapy drug Doxorubicin directly into the tumour. Preclinical trials showed a 75% tumour size reduction within 18 days in mice. This innovative approach minimises toxicity, reduces systemic side effects, and enhances drug efficacy. By protecting healthy cells and promoting precision therapy, this hydrogel could revolutionise cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes.
