Kerala New Cattle Insurance Scheme
Kerala has introduced a new cattle insurance scheme to support the state's dairy sector, approved by the central government. The scheme includes initiatives like Arunodayam for heifer improvement and Snehamitram, a life insurance plan for farmers at a nominal premium of ₹10. To address climate change impacts, ₹22 crore is allocated for calf care, with compensation of ₹37,500 for cow deaths. Measures include veterinary ambulances across block panchayats. However, rising fodder costs and climate challenges pose obstacles. These efforts aim to reduce farmer losses, improve milk production, and ensure financial security, marking progress in dairy industry sustainability.
