Ancient Fortified Town in Saudi Arabia

Summary: Archaeologists have discovered a 4,000-year-old fortified town named al-Natah in Saudi Arabia’s Khaybar oasis. The site, led by archaeologist Guillaume Charloux, reveals evidence of early urbanization, including a 14.5-kilometer wall, structured dwellings, and social organization typical of an emerging urban center. Dating to around 2400 BC, this Bronze Age settlement housed up to 500 people and highlights the region's shift from nomadic to urban lifestyles, emphasizing the complex societal structure of North Arabian oases in early trade networks. This discovery sheds light on ancient human adaptations to the desert environment and enhances understanding of Arabia’s early urban history.
