Oldest Eyeliner Discovered in Turkey
The oldest known kohl stick, dating back over 8,200 years, was recently discovered at Yeşilova Höyük in Turkey. Made from serpentine stone and containing traces of black manganese oxide, it represents the earliest evidence of cosmetics use. This finely crafted tool highlights the advanced skills of prehistoric civilizations. Kohl was widely used in ancient Egypt, the Levant, and Anatolia for both cosmetic and medicinal purposes, such as treating eye diseases and protecting against sunlight. The discovery underscores the deep-rooted history of makeup and the importance of personal care in ancient societies.
