The central government recently notified the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023 in view of the increasing number of incidents involving stray dogs. The centre has reached out to the states, seeking the enforcement of the new rules.
Background:
- The Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act of 1960 is used to address the issue of stray dogs in India.
- Recently, the Ministry of Animal Husbandry notified the new Animal Birth Control Rules 2023. This new set of rules supersedes the 2001 Rules.
