UNEP Champions of the Earth 2024
The UNEP Champions of the Earth 2024 recognized six individuals and initiatives for their environmental contributions. Indian ecologist Madhav Gadgil won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his biodiversity conservation work in the Western Ghats. Brazil’s Sonia Guajajara received the Policy Leadership award for advancing Indigenous rights. US advocate Amy Bowers Cordalis was honored for restoring the Klamath River, and Romanian activist Gabriel Paun for fighting deforestation.
