Turkey Seeks Membership in BRICS

Turkey has officially applied to join BRICS, a coalition of emerging economies, with support from Russian President Vladimir Putin. This move might reflect Turkey's frustration with the stalled EU membership process since 2018 due to concerns about democratic standards and human rights. BRICS, established in 2010, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and recently expanded to countries like Egypt, Iran, and the UAE. Turkey’s application could be a strategic step to gain leverage in EU negotiations, but it may risk suspicion among EU and NATO allies, challenging Turkey's balance between Western and non-Western alliances.
