Shadow Fleet

The "shadow fleet" refers to tanker ships that transport Russian crude oil to countries while circumventing sanctions imposed due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. With the U.S. setting a price cap of per barrel on Russian oil, these ships use tactics like switching flags, employing shell companies, and changing insurance management to bypass regulations. India has been accused of playing a role in this network, raising suspicions of facilitating Russian oil laundering. The complex global shipping industry structure, along with lax enforcement, makes sanction compliance difficult to monitor effectively.
