Pseumenes siangensis: New Wasp Discovery
Entomologists from ATREE have discovered a new potter wasp species, Pseumenes siangensis, in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang Valley. This marks only the second species of the Pseumenes genus recorded in India, highlighting the region's rich but underexplored biodiversity. The wasp, measuring 30.2 mm, features distinct body characteristics and plays an important ecological role by feeding on caterpillars, aiding natural pest control. The discovery underscores the need for more research and conservation efforts to protect the Eastern Himalayas' unique ecosystems.
