Odisha Villages Recognised as Tsunami Ready by UNESCO

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO has recognized 24 tsunami-prone villages in Odisha as part of the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP). This initiative enhances community preparedness through training, mock drills, and educational efforts, meeting 12 specified indicators. Villages across six districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, and Ganjam, achieved this recognition during the 2nd Global Tsunami Symposium in Indonesia. The Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) plans to expand tsunami readiness to all 381 at-risk villages, reinforcing Odisha's commitment to disaster resilience. These efforts are supported by agencies like INCOIS and NTRB.
