Nihon Hidankyo Wins 2024 Nobel Peace Prize for Disarmament
Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organization of atomic bomb survivors (Hibakusha), has won the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize for its tireless work in advocating for nuclear disarmament. Founded in 1956, Nihon Hidankyo has raised global awareness of the catastrophic effects of nuclear weapons, notably the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. The group has been instrumental in promoting the "nuclear taboo," which discourages the use of nuclear weapons. Their work aligns with past Nobel Peace Prize winners like ICAN, reinforcing the importance of a nuclear-free world amid rising global nuclear tensions.
