NHAI Self-Healing Road Technologies
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is actively researching new technologies to develop self-healing roads. These roads can automatically repair themselves, aiming to eliminate potholes and enhance road durability. Technologies such as microencapsulation, induction heating, bacteria-based healing, and rejuvenator capsules are in various stages of development and testing around the world. NHAI is focusing on a specific technology that combines infused bitumen with steel fibres, ensuring spontaneous self-repair. This approach has not yet been implemented but shows great promise for future use in India, potentially transforming road maintenance and reliability.
