NAWO-DHAN: New Horticulture Agribusiness Initiative

The NAWO-DHAN initiative, launched by Kerala’s Agriculture Department, focuses on revitalising horticulture agribusiness using fallow lands. Through Service Level Agreements, it treats farming as a service without transferring land ownership. The project addresses Kerala's production-demand gaps in vegetables and fruits while promoting efficient land use. Initial participation includes 22 landowners and 149 cultivators covering 1,600 acres. This initiative aims to attract investments, encourage high-tech farming, and enhance food crop production, while addressing challenges such as fragmented lands and market access. If successful, it will serve as a model for sustainable agribusiness expansion.
