Mandatory Farmer ID Requirement for PM-Kisan Scheme

Starting January 1, 2025, new applicants for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme must obtain a farmer ID linked to land records. This unique identifier streamlines verification, ensuring benefits reach eligible farmers. The scheme provides Rs 6,000 annually to small and marginal farmers, funded entirely by the Central Government. Initially implemented in ten states, the initiative is part of the Agri-Stack under the Digital Agriculture Mission. By March 2025, the government aims to create 6 crore farmer IDs. This move enhances transparency and efficiency while aligning with India’s goal of digitising agriculture and improving farmer welfare.
