Karnataka Launches Ovitrap Baskets for Dengue
Karnataka has launched a pilot project using Ovitrap baskets to combat the rising dengue cases, which have reached 24,028 with five deaths reported. Ovitraps are specialized traps designed to monitor mosquito populations, particularly Aedes species, by attracting them to lay eggs in a controlled environment. Globally successful, these traps have been used in countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines to monitor and control dengue outbreaks. In India, similar efforts in Assam have shown effectiveness in identifying high-risk areas, aiding targeted mosquito control strategies.
