K Sanjay Murthy, New Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India
K Sanjay Murthy, an IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre (1989 batch), has been appointed as India’s new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), succeeding Girish Chandra Murmu. Backed by the Indian Audit and Accounts Department, the CAG oversees audits of union and state government finances, critical sectors like defense and telecom, and over 1,500 public enterprises. The CAG’s authority, rooted in Article 149 of the Constitution and the 1971 Act, ensures transparency and accountability in public spending. The role demands evolving methodologies and coordination to manage its broad scope effectively.
