Jharkhand Mica Mines Declared Child Labour Free

Jharkhand's mica mines, primarily in the Koderma and Giridih districts, have been declared child labour-free by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) as of July 2024. Historically known as the Mica Capital of India, these regions faced significant issues with illegal mining and child labour due to poverty and lack of educational opportunities. The Child Labour Free Mica initiative, through strategies like creating child-friendly villages and partnerships with NGOs and government bodies, has successfully protected numerous children and improved community welfare. The declaration marks a significant milestone, promising a brighter future for local communities.
