India’s Record Coal Production in 2023-24
India achieved a record coal production of 997.826 million tonnes in 2023-24, marking an 11.71% increase from the previous year. This milestone aligns with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, aiming for self-reliance in coal production. Coking coal output reached 66.821 million tonnes, crucial for steel production. The government targets 140 million tonnes of coking coal in five years.
