In late April, 10 jawans and a civilian were killed in an IED blast in Chhattisgarh. This incident has thrown the light on the increasing number of IED incidents in the Red Corridor region.
What are IEDs?
- IED or Improvised Explosive Device is an unconventional type of explosive that can be made from everyday items. These can take different forms and can be triggered in different ways.
- There are 2 main types of IEDs:
- Pressure IEDs- activated by weight of a person/ a vehicle
- Command IEDs- activated by a timer or remote control
