Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)
The 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) saw Chinese President Xi Jinping pledge billion for 30 major infrastructure projects across Africa. FOCAC, established in 2000, is a platform that strengthens China-Africa relations, involving 53 African countries and the African Union. Africa is a key part of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), where over 0 billion has already been invested in African projects. Despite concerns about ‘debt trap diplomacy,’ the 2024 summit focused on further collaboration, with a growing emphasis on smaller projects and green technologies.
