The International Day of Rural Women 2022 was observed on October 15th, on the theme of ‘Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All’. On this occasion, there is a need to recognize women’s role in livestock rearing.
How significant is livestock sector in India?
- Livestock sector is one of the fastest growing divisions of the Indian rural economy. It accounts for 28% of agriculture GDP and 5% of the national income in 2018-19.
- Over the past 6 years, the sector grew at 7.9% even as the crop farming sector grew by 2%.
