What is sulphuric acid?
- Sulphuric acid is also known as hydrogen sulphate or oil of vitriol. It is a colourless corrosive liquid.
- It is a very strong acid and a commercially important chemical.
- While China is the largest producer of sulphuric acid, the largest exporter is Canada. India is also one of the top producers of sulphuric acid.
Where is it used?
- Production of fertilizers- especially superphosphates and ammonium sulphates
- Manufacturing of other commercially important chemicals- like nitric acid and hydrochloric acid
- Processing metals- like iron
- Manufacturing of products- like explosives, dyes, detergents, etc.
