The current era, called Anthropocene, is witnessing human interference in every aspect of the planet’s ecosystem. This includes the freshwater habitats and their associated aquatic biodiversity. Among the various types of freshwater bodies, shallow water bodies continue to suffer comparatively lesser conservation attention.
What are shallow water bodies?
- The National Lake Conservation Program defines lakes as water bodies that have a minimum 3 m water depth, a surface area of over 10 hectares and a little aquatic vegetation.
