Digital Bharat Nidhi
Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) is an initiative by India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) aimed at enhancing telecom connectivity, especially in rural and underserved areas. Replacing the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), DBN is funded by a 5% Universal Service Levy on telecom operators' revenues, which is first credited to the Consolidated Fund of India and then transferred to DBN. The funds are utilized to promote telecom services, support research and development, fund pilot projects, and introduce new technologies. An appointed administrator will oversee the selection of implementers and determine funding modalities. The initiative targets rural, remote, and economically weaker sections, focusing on affordability, innovation, and indigenous technology development.
