Bhopal Toxic Waste Disposal Begins in Pithampur
Hazardous waste from the former Union Carbide factory in Bhopal is being disposed of at Pithampur following a directive by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The waste includes residues from the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy, caused by the release of methyl isocyanate gas, which killed thousands and left long-term health impacts. Incineration at Pithampur will follow stringent environmental safeguards, with emissions filtered through a four-layer system. The process aims to complete soon, depending on residue safety. This disposal is a critical step in addressing environmental contamination and fulfilling legal mandates.
