AlphaFold
AlphaFold, developed by DeepMind, is a revolutionary tool for predicting protein structures, crucial for advancements in molecular biology, medicine, and agriculture. Traditional methods like X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance were costly and slow. AlphaFold, starting in 2016, improved through CASP events, with AlphaFold 2 in 2020 achieving high accuracy. AlphaFold 3, released in 2024, expanded to predict structures of proteins, DNA, RNA, and small molecular ligands, impacting medicine design, genomics, and biorenewable materials. The AlphaFold Database, created with EMBL, offers free access to over 200 million protein structures, aiding global scientific research.
