West Nile Virus Update
In August 2024, a teenager in Missouri was severely affected by the West Nile virus, leading to paralysis and the need for ICU care, raising public concern. The West Nile virus is primarily transmitted by mosquitoes that have fed on infected birds. Most cases are mild or asymptomatic, but severe cases can cause neurological issues like encephalitis and paralysis, especially in those over 60 or with chronic conditions. There is no specific treatment, so preventing mosquito bites is crucial for reducing infection risks.
