India Names Three Underwater Structures in Indian Ocean

India has officially named three underwater structures in the Indian Ocean: Ashoka Seamount, Chandragupt Ridge, and Kalpataru Ridge, recognized by the International Hydrographic Organization and UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. These discoveries, made between 2012 and 2020 by Indian and Russian research ships, highlight India’s contributions to global oceanography and enhance national pride. The Indian Southern Ocean Research Programme, led by the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, has been crucial in these efforts, which support marine ecosystem research and conservation.
