Haryana All-Crops MSP Procurement
On August 4, 2024, Haryana became the first Indian state to announce the procurement of all crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), a policy expansion aimed at supporting farmers and ensuring stable incomes. The move, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, includes additional crops beyond the existing 14 covered under MSP and includes waiving irrigation charges and clearing pending compensation payments for farmers. This policy is part of the BJP's strategy to regain popularity before the upcoming Assembly elections, following a decline in support during the recent Lok Sabha elections. The decision underscores the importance of MSP in securing agricultural stability and political leverage.
