Biofloc Technology (BFT) and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)

Biofloc Technology (BFT) and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) are innovative aquaculture methods being adopted in India to boost sustainability and efficiency. BFT uses beneficial bacteria to convert waste into nutrients, reducing water pollution and antibiotic dependency. RAS recirculates water, minimizing usage and enhancing disease control. Supported by government subsidies and research from institutions like ICAR-CIFA, these technologies have shown success in states like Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. However, high initial costs remain a challenge. These methods are crucial for meeting global demand while ensuring environmental sustainability.
