African Swine Fever Outbreak in Kohima
The African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Kohima, Nagaland, has been successfully contained by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS). Detected after local entrepreneurs reported sick pigs, the disease was confirmed through tests and contained following international protocols. Originating from China and entering India in 2020, ASF is a severe viral disease affecting pigs, with no current vaccine or treatment, making containment vital. The recent outbreak resulted in the loss of all affected livestock but was managed without spreading further, showcasing effective emergency response and preventive measures.
