• The World Cities Day is observed on October 31st of every year.
• This is being celebrated since 2014.
• The 2022 World Cities Day was observed, on the theme of ‘Act Local to Go Global’, in Shanghai, China.

How are the Indian cities performing?

• Unfortunately, Indian cities lag behind the international cities when it comes to quality of life metrics.
• The 2019 Quality of Living Ranking, of Mercer, puts:
  • Hyderabad at the top of all Indian cities, but it ranks at the 143rd position globally.
  • Pune at 144th spot
  • Chennai at 151st rank
  • Mumbai at 154th rank
  • Kolkata at 160th
