What is INTERPOL?

  • Interpol or International Criminal Police Organization is an intergovernmental organization to fight international crime.
  • It was formed in 1923 and has 195 member countries, including India.
  • The Interpol’s General Secretariat, run by the Secretary General, coordinates the organization’s everyday activities. It is headquartered in Lyon, France.
    • In India, the CBI is the central point of contact between the Interpol General Secretariat and the Indian government.
