Z-Morh Tunnel: A Gateway to Year-Round Tourism
The Z-Morh tunnel, spanning 6.5 km in Ganderbal district, Kashmir, is set for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13, 2025. Built at a cost of ₹2,680 crore, it ensures year-round access to the tourist destination Sonamarg, historically disrupted by heavy snowfall. Part of a strategic route to Ladakh, the project includes advanced infrastructure like a two-lane main tunnel and escape and ventilation tunnels. It also connects to the upcoming Zojila tunnel, Asia's longest. The tunnel boosts tourism, facilitates regional connectivity, and addresses security and environmental concerns while supporting economic growth through winter travel accessibility.
