UDAN 2.0 – Reviving Regional Connectivity in India
UDAN 2.0, part of India's ambitious civil aviation strategy, aims to boost regional connectivity by making air travel affordable and accessible. Building on the success of the 2016 UDAN scheme, it plans to develop underutilized airstrips and revive smaller airports. With an expected budget allocation increase, UDAN 2.0 introduces Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for operators in underserved areas. Since its inception, the UDAN scheme has facilitated travel for over 1.44 crore passengers, operationalized 85 aerodromes, and increased airports from 74 (2014) to 157 (2024). The long-term goal is achieving 350-400 operational airports by 2047, catalyzing economic and regional growth.
