TRAI SMS Traffic Clarification
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) clarified definitions for international and domestic SMS traffic to improve regulatory clarity and compliance. International traffic includes messages that cross national borders, with India involved as the origin or destination, while domestic traffic encompasses communications wholly within India. Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging rules now classify cross-border messages sent by applications or devices located outside India as international. Following a consultation process, TRAI finalized recommendations. These definitions aim to address growing cross-border communications and streamline regulatory oversight, ensuring fair practices within India's telecommunications sector.
