Shaurya Din – 207 Years of Valour

The 207th Shaurya Din (Valour Day) commemorates the Battle of Koregaon Bhima fought on January 1, 1818, where Mahar soldiers allied with British forces defeated the Peshwa army. Observed annually on January 1, this event highlights Dalit pride and resistance. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s visit to the Vijaystambh in 1927 linked the battle to the Dalit movement for equality and justice. Each year, millions gather at Koregaon Bhima to honour the Mahar soldiers’ legacy, celebrating their role in fostering equality and social justice while reaffirming the importance of remembering historical struggles.
