Robot Suicide

In late 2023, a robotic government servant named "Robot Supervisor" working for the Gumi City Council in South Korea was found broken at the bottom of a flight of stairs, an event now referred to as "robot suicide." The robot, which had a civil service ID and worked a 9-to-5 routine, was responsible for tasks such as document delivery, city promotion, and information dissemination. Reports indicated the robot exhibited distress before the incident. An investigation is ongoing, with Bear Robotics analyzing the robot's parts. The incident has led the Gumi City Council to pause further robot deployments, raising ethical and safety concerns about robot integration in public service roles.
