Open Market Sale Scheme- Centre vs States on the Recent Revisions

From Current Affairs Notes for UPSC » Editorials & In-depths » This topic
The recent National Conference of Food Ministers failed to resolve the disagreement between the states and the centre over the discontinuation of rice and wheat sale to the former under OMSS.
About the OMSS:
- The Food Corporation of India, under the Open Market Sale Scheme, sells surplus food grains in the open market at pre-determined prices.
- It is generally rice and wheat, from the central pool that is sold under the OMSS.
- The FCI does this through e-auctions in which open market bidders can purchase specified quantities
