New Criminal Laws in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched new criminal laws in Chandigarh, replacing colonial-era practices with modern legal frameworks. The initiative introduces Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (criminal justice reform), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (citizen safety enhancement), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (modern evidence laws). These reforms align with constitutional mandates to ensure timely and fair justice, empower citizens, and reflect Indian values. The nationwide rollout is planned over three years. The launch included exhibitions and live demonstrations of crime scene investigations under the new laws.
