Microplastics Found in Human Brains
Recent studies have found microplastics in human organs, particularly the brain, raising significant health concerns. These tiny plastic particles, which come from the breakdown of larger plastic items, have been discovered in high concentrations in the brain, lungs, placenta, and bone marrow. The National Institutes of Health found microplastics in brain samples, with their levels increasing over time. There are early indications that microplastics could be linked to diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s, though further research is needed. Scientists are calling for urgent action to address the global plastic pollution crisis and better understand its health impacts.
