Mangroves in South India, Sri Lanka Labeled ‘Critically Endangered
The IUCN has labeled coastal mangroves in Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives as “critically endangered.” The assessment highlights the importance of mangroves for biodiversity, local livelihoods, and climate change mitigation. Tamil Nadu has seen growth in mangrove areas and formed village groups for conservation.
