Maha Kumbh Mela District
The Uttar Pradesh government has created a new Maha Kumbh Mela district in Prayagraj to ensure efficient management of the upcoming Kumbh Mela in January 2025. This initiative enhances coordination, law enforcement, and resource allocation for one of the largest global religious gatherings, which occurs every 12 years. A special administrative team, led by a Mela Adikari with powers akin to a District Magistrate, will oversee the event. The announcement highlights the government’s focus on safety and organisation for millions of pilgrims. This move also aligns with broader welfare initiatives like cash transfer programs for women.
